11.00am: Sprout's Halloween Surprise! with local picture book author Susan Hughes. With abackground in Early Years and Primary education, Susan loves to write fun and engaging stories whichmake you laugh, smile or even bring a tear to your eye! Join Susan as she reads her sproutacular storyand help Sprout make some 'Pumpkin Pal Soup'! 11.30am: Nick McLoughlin. Nick will read a short section from his debut novel before talking aboutwhy it took him so long to get around to writing it. He’ll also reveal where he got his inspiration, what hiswriting process involves, and his somewhat roundabout route to publication. 12.00 noon: Jane Bettany and Mark Eklid. Join Derbyshire authors Jane Bettany and Mark Eklid, whowill be talking about their books, crime fiction and answering questions on writing and the publishingprocess.12.30pm John Delaney: From accountant to author via Hamleys and an iTunes number One.John Delaney gives some insights into how his writing journey began with murder mystery games andwent on to three musicals and an opera before he wrote the Jurassic Jemma Trilogy. John will also do areading from his first book, A Dangerous Fossil. 1.00pm Hetty Waite: Hetty Waite is a local author and former teacher. After years spent in theclassroom sharing her love of books, she has just had the first part of her Young Adult dystopian trilogypublished by SpellBound Books Ltd. She will be talking about her path to publication and sharingextracts from her debut novel Mutate.1.30: Costume competition judging and prizes (at the Dormouse Books stand)2.00pm: Katherine Hertzel. Katherine Hetzel is a children's author who mainly writes fantasy novelswith strong female lead characters for 9-12 years. Her creative writing book, is fun, illustrated, and haseverything a young writer needs to write stories they are proud of. She'll be offering a short activityfrom the book to help young writers (or new writers who are young at heart!) to plan a story in hersession. 2.30pm: Tom Mead. Tom Mead is a Derby mystery writer and aficionado of Golden Age Crime Fiction.His debut novel, DEATH AND THE CONJUROR, was named one of the best mysteries of the year by TheGuardian and Publishers Weekly. His third novel, CABARET MACABRE, was published in August 2024.3.00pm: Alice Harman Alice is a local author who has written 50 (and counting!) children’s non-fictionbooks. She has worked with illustrators such as Sir Quentin Blake and with galleries such as the Louvre,the Centre Pompidou and the Tate Modern. Alice's most recent book is Art Sparks (illustrated byKimberly Clinthorne-Wong), a fun and friendly activity book exploring the New York’s Met Museumamazing collection. She will be giving kids a chance to try out one of the activities from the book,making weird and wonderfully wonky ‘ceramics’ inspired by iconic US potter George Ohr.
